Ishqedarriyaan opened to mixed reviews and responses. Times of India gave 1.5/5 stars to the film saying, "Evelyn Sharma for a change is not seen in skimpy outfits but her acting stays consistently poor, Mahaakshay is convincing but the film is way too tedious for you to sit through it. Music and locations are probably the best part about this film. Unfortunately, everything else is mediocre. Overall it turns out to be inconsequential in return. Despite decent production values, Ishqedarriyaan fails to click as it is way too cliched. Conventional is fine as long as it leaves some impact on you as an audience, which doesn't happen here. Paloma Sharma of Rediff wrote "The trouble with Ishqedarriyaan is that it isn't even bad enough to be good. It's just plain old dull. Lost in a world of its own, the film forgets to engage the viewer. The makers of the film might need to offer free tea at the screenings to give the audience an incentive to stay awake. The kindest thing I can say about Ishqedarriyaan is that it is yawn worthy." and gave the film 1.5/5 stars. The Indian Express gave 1/5 stars and wrote "Mahakshay returns in a badly-written romance, which makes you wonder why anyone would want to repeat the same mistakes. Ishqedarriyan’' features the age-old triangle of rich boy- poor girl- and third party, in a leaden plot that never takes off. We know who’s going to win fair maiden in the end, but we have to wade through two hours and more of sheer tiresomeness to get there. Who is this film made for? Book my Show stated that "The love story is sweet, but cliched! An overdose of emotional drama makes this romantic saga a bore. A loose script, below par acting and cliched romantic scenes, Ishqedarriyaan is a love saga that will bore you for two long hours! The film despite starting on a good note, loses grip after the first fifteen minutes. The Indian Talks gave 4/5 stars to the film stating that "Evelyn can be seen in every third scene of the movie which makes it little boring the whole movie revolves around her. There is complete lack of the other sides of the story which is much needed with this idea. No doubt the performance of the actors are next to awesome.

Tanu and Manu's marriage collapses. What happens when Manu meets Tanu's lookalike Kusum - and when Tanu returns?

User Reviews

I had watched the prequel and loved it. It was a perfect film and a breath of fresh air in the turgid environment of Bollywood. So when the sequel came, we booked our tickets a week in advance and waited eagerly for the feast we were sure of.

If you are not seeking hundred percent verisimilitude the film meets all your expectations. We were in a late late night show (in a foreign country) and the theatre was full. People were clapping, hooting with laughter and enjoyment and were thoroughly engaged with the film.

The film is about what happens to Tanu and Manu four years down the line. In that, it's quite predictable. Disappointment, resentment, regret, a desire to turn the clock back -all these describe the madcap Tanu (Kangana)who makes her way home after getting her husband, Manu, thrown into a mental asylum for being boring and callous like most husbands. What follows is a mad trajectory of passive marital rage interspersed with a clever balance of realism, comedy and pathos. This is done so well and so effortlessly that you are carried along, now laughing, now upset, now understanding, now sad, now nodding your head in recognition at some situation or dialogue.

Without giving away the story, suffice it to say that Aanand Rai has proved that the public is ready to accept an indie film provided it's honest, original and clean. Here, Kangana steers the film and the rest of the cast perform seamlessly. Madhavan plays second fiddle to Kangana but with perfect élan. Deepak (Pappi) is our new Johnny Walker, fresh, natural and without the contortions of our so called stand ups. I love Jimmy Shergill and feel sad that he is visible only in glimpses.

Yes, Banno, your swagger is immensely sexy, attractive, rib tickling and I am rooting for ya. You go, gal!

User Reviews

Thank you Mani Ratnam for this very timely return to form. OK Kanmani( Such a nice title) is a beautiful love story about the modern age relationships. The dialogues and the settings do bring back flashes of Alaipayuthey and Aaytha Ezhuthu. This isn't a perfect movie. There were some scenes that were cringe worthy(The Loopie App song/moment) . But despite these minor flaws, this movie is a triumph. A celebration. Performances by the cast were terrific . Dulquer is a capable leading man(despite his limited acting range). Nithya Menon was terrific and frighteningly real. But it's Prakash Raj and Leela Samson who steals the show as the older couple . The film moves to a different when they are in the frame. Overall, a beautiful movie that will appeal to the classes.

When I saw the trailer of NH10, it seemed just like one of those road movies that you have seen several times before. You know the ones where a couple or group of friends leave on a trip and counter a killer on a remote road who chases and kills them one by one! As it turned out NH10 was anything but usual.

The film starts off with Meera (Anushka) and Arjun (Neil) heading off on a weekend getaway. Meera has been traumatized by an event that happened a few days before, so the trip is more to get her back to her usual self. While stopping for lunch at a highway dhaba, they notice a group trashing an eloping couple and try to intervene. A few scenes later, they notice the same group on a remote road and Neil just on a whim, rather stupidly decides to teach them a lesson. The chain of events this decision leads them through, forms rest of the story.

This film is one of those few ones where you will find it hard to find any faults. Everything about the film right from the gripping screenplay, the near perfect acting performances (even from actors in brief roles),cinematography and background score are so perfectly in place. The director Navdeep Singh needs to be commended immensely for delivering a suspenseful gripping drama while at the same time highlighting the topical issue of honor killing and how entrenched caste is in the rural India's psyche. The honor killing sequence in particular is so raw and real that it sends a chill down your spine.

The film is interspersed throughout with subtleties which capture the sad and tragic realities of urban and rural India beautifully. The cop blaming the victim by asking why Anushka was out late at night when she tries to lodge a complaint; The xenophobia towards people from other states;the scenes with the brother and his friends capturing the crude patriarchy that exists in rural India etc are fine examples. The scene which takes the cake is the one where the rural cop mentions that Manu and Ambedkar had the same ideology!

Another common perception that prevails amongst most of us is that, only men are responsible for these horrible happenings. While this may be true in most cases, the film in a very hard hitting way conveys that women are equally to be blamed.

Its always heartening to watch a movie which is entertaining and conscience provoking at the same time. NH10 is a fine example and walks this tightrope with great élan.

User Reviews

Following the current questionable trend of making weak sequels of some well made films, here is another of those attempts made by a different team trying to en-cash the cult status of its original released a decade back in 2004.

To mention its few merits, Nana Patekar once again proves to be the major pull in the film playing Sadhu Agashe, the encounter specialist and it all begins on a promising note exactly from where they left it open-ended in the original. The initial 20 minutes set the mood in with few notable punchy dialogues and an energetic background score coming at the right moments. But as soon as Nana joins the force again and begins his encounter missions as per his own questionable style, the film goes back to all routine standards with nothing new to offer to the viewers in terms of storyline, execution or performances.

The camera-work awfully tries to imitate RGV in an amateurish manner throughout the film and Nana Patekar starts sleepwalking in his act unexpectedly post the enjoyable initial moments. All the cuss words in its dialogues get muted as per the new guidelines of the Censor board, brutally hurting their final impact quite annoyingly and the climax doesn't turn out to be anything exciting or innovative at all as compared to its impressive original (though written with all good intentions against the corrupt politicians).

In short, debutant director Aejaz Gulab fails to materialize on the ground already there and delivers a below average film with only a few worth mentioning features namely the well written lines, background score and action sequences. However I strong feel that its theme music should have been used repeatedly in the backdrop instead of playing the unnecessary variations diluting the overall effect.

Moreover with just OK performances coming from seasoned actors such as Vikram Gokhale, Ashutosh Rana, Dilip Prabhawalkar, Raj Zutshi and Gul Panag, AB TAK CHHAPPAN 2 (a song-less thriller) can surely be rated as a great opportunity missed by the team to move one step ahead than its part one despite having the same Sadhu Agashe in the cast.

Went in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. No regrets paying to see it in theater which is more than I could say with the third hobbit movie. Reminds me of a merlin/arthur like film sprinkled in with some brothers grimm/season of the witch. Well done, nothing incredible, but no over the top or in my opinion failed special effects or actions. Nothing against any of the actors either. If I had to grade it as a movie over all, not a A but a solid B-B-. For what it did in the medieval fantasy genre especially compared to what we have seen from that genre as of late, it hits the A there sure. I recommend seeing it in theater, no IMAX or 3D, just standard showing though.

I went to see this with my boyfriend last night and it was great. I literally jumped out of my seat constantly as the scares are delivered perfectly. We was also laughing all the way through the movie as the use of humour was spot on. The story was great and setting was very eerie.

I've seen all the PA films and this is one of my favourites for sure. I loved PA1. PA2 was good enough. PA3 was great. PA4 was honestly one of the worst films I have ever had the displeasure to witness. PA: The Marked Ones has saved the franchise and could be my favourite as it really built up tension and i was genuinely scared. Fantastic! Go see it now!

User Reviews

There's hardly a kid born from the 80s who has never heard of this totally bodacious group of walking, talking, pizza-eating, street-fighting reptiles. It has always been a goofy saga, but it was also hip, action-packed, and colorful. Can the same be said about the latest adaptation?

On the surface level, 2014's TMNT at least looks the part. It's a fairly breezy film that never takes itself seriously, packing on generous heapings of goofy comedy, stylish action scenes, and loads of special effects. The first half of the film takes its time to follow April O'Neil around, who inevitably uncovers the secret of the turtles' existence, and the outlandish Foot Clan plot to take over New York City. The last half of the film is pretty much all-out fighting and action, which includes a fight in the sewers, a lengthy chase scene down the slopes of a mountain, and a final showdown on top of a skyscraper. Thus, I found the last half of the film the most engaging.

It's still not without its problems though. Despite the light-hearted tone and all the jokes, very little of it made me laugh outright. The humor is quite low-brow and doofy. Action scenes will be a hit and a miss; fight scenes in the film's first half are horribly shot and edited (on purpose nonetheless). Later scenes are still hectic, but are at least watchable and fairly fun. Scenes in between try their best to keep things rolling fast and without becoming droll, but without any major emotional investment, these scenes tend to drag a bit.

Beyond the surface-level comedy and action, there's not much else to this film. The plot is pretty much a mash-up of typical TMNT fare and 2007's Transformers (also an adaptation of an 80s cartoon where human characters discover some weird life form and gets caught in the middle of a war nobody knew existed; both starring Megan Fox nonetheless). What plot the movie has is riddled with plot holes, and scenes that are simply way too unbelievable (maybe not a valid complaint for TMNT, but with the way the film tries to look believable, the film shoots its own creditability in the foot). The turtle characters are fun to watch, usually, and Splinter is one cool rat. They aren't terribly deep characters, but they are colorful, and there is just enough background to them to keep them from being total caricatures. Other characters aren't as good: April O'Neil is almost annoying as she obsesses over the turtles and shouts her findings at everybody she runs across. Her sidekick is a dork. Shredder is extremely flat, lifeless, and lacking in presence, serving little more than an excuse to have a boss fight at the end of the movie. The film draws some connections between all the characters to give their interactions more backing, but it only strains the creditability of the plot even further.

The film's photography looks good sometimes and terrible at other times. Editing is choppy. Acting is pretty lackluster from the whole crowd; Megan Fox is far from endearing despite her looks, the voice acting can be a hit or a miss, and other actors don't really take their roles seriously, for better or for worse. Writing is pretty daft. This production uses okay-looking sets, props, and costumes. Locales are pretty small-scale most of the time. Special effects vary from good to bad. Music is okay (I got to admit that I found the end credits song catchy).

This incarnation of the Turtles definitely has its flaws, but it tries to be a fun picture, and it is at least partway successful. Not everybody will be quite as easily charmed as I am, so I'm compelled to recommend approaching this movie with caution.

User Reviews

Studios are constantly in search of the next "Twilight," "The Hunger Games," or "Harry Potter" franchise, with best-selling books being the primary source of episodic additions. They've found just such a novel (an entire trilogy by Veronica Roth), containing the similarities and elements so highly coveted – but originality definitely isn't one of them. "Divergent" is once again a teen-oriented science-fiction adventure, full of action, romance, and adolescent consternations. Instead of focusing on a love triangle, survivalist thrills, or a great magical evil, this derivation is all about independence, corporatism, and the dramatic coup d'état of a corrupt government. The setting is still a postapocalyptic dystopian remnant, the small gathering of heroes is still vastly outmatched, and unconvincing love banter is carelessly tossed about.

Hundreds of years after a war devastated the planet, Chicago is reduced to a small community walled off from an unknown outside threat and hidden amongst dilapidated buildings. The founder of this surviving civilization has divided all inhabitants into five factions, each with different skills and jobs. At an undisclosed age (sixteen according to the book), each member must choose between the path of an intellect, a farmer, a public servant, a politician, or a soldier. Youths are expected to follow their heritage and are discouraged from selecting a role unaligned with their birthright. Nevertheless, an archaic choosing ceremony (involving the ridiculous ritualistic cutting of the hand and squeezing blood drops into a symbolic bowl) allows everyone to select publicly, after having taken a mental test that informs of personal skills and mindset.

Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley) originates from the selfless "Abnegation" faction, but chooses to pursue a career with the brave "Dauntless" clan (a controversial move instigated by her rare multi-faction tendencies, dubbed "divergent"). She's separated from her family, seemingly permanently, for a 10-week training period that isn't as militaristic or educational as it is gladiatorial, anarchical, and naturally nurturing for bullies. Rules of combat and scoring points are made up along the way, with failure rewarded with a casting out to the homeless, filthy, starving "factionless" throng (its existence is obvious evidence that the intended peaceful societal system in place spawns inequality, greed, and dictatorial leaders). Beatrice becomes "Tris" as she sets about learning how to fight and quell her fears. She finds herself drawn toward instructor Four (Theo James) while learning about a plot by conspiring, power hungry politician Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet) to violently overthrow a discordant sect.

This strange, totalistic world, full of peculiar traditions, is explained via bland voice-over narration, hindered further by rock beats, spontaneous running, and borderline parkour maneuvers conducted by the Dauntless pack (which serves as showy, daredevil guardians of the city). The premise, which has the unmistakable feel of "The Hunger Games," also borrows considerably from "Equilibrium," "1984," "City of Ember," and even "Bee Movie." The extended sequences of training, camaraderie, and simulated war games hints at "Starship Troopers," while a laughable introduction to coed showering facilities that is, of course, never alluded to or shown again, vaguely reminds of "Robocop" or "Aliens" – a desperation to compare with movies filled with mature characters that could actually cope with such an R-rated concept. There's absolutely nothing unique about "Divergent," though the action-packed finale desperately attempts to fix the staleness of lengthy exposition and unfamiliar environmental establishment.

Falling victim to the same problem of many science-fiction or fantasy epic startups, the story is 90% introduction. The majority of the movie is merely a first act. Resolutions aren't even attempted and many characters are clearly saved for subsequent chapters, which prevent the satisfaction of revenge or clarity for this mystifying society. "Let's just say they built the fence for a reason," insists Four. By the time the themes of free will, chemical brainwashing, and rebellion are put into action, it's too late. The plausibility of confronting an army, sneaking into a heavily defended command center, or conquering mind control drugs are at a low, especially when the lead hero is an unpersuasive, untoughened insurgent incapable of killing the villains that are in desperate need of dispatching.
